North Fulton is losing the quality people who care for our seniors. Help us keep the good ones.
Local businesses in Alpharetta, Roswell and Milton are helping us do the one thing the caregiving industry never does: notice the people who do the work.
There aren’t enough good caregivers
Good caregivers are out there, and every family who has looked for one knows how rare they are. In Alpharetta, Roswell and Milton alone there are about 27,500 people over 65, and an estimated 18,000 of their adult children nearby making decisions about their care.
Caregivers do the hardest job in the house for a low wage, and three out of four are gone within a year. Some leave for the money. Most leave because they never felt respected or appreciated.
What we’re doing about it
Telford Loving Care is preparing to launch non-medical in-home senior care in Alpharetta, Roswell and Milton. We are built around keeping the caregivers who do the job right. Every caregiver in our ALTRU network is screened four ways before she reaches training, trained through our own RN-directed ALTRU Academy, and matched to a family as a person rather than a slot on a schedule.
We pay above market, and we make sure the good ones are noticed. Specifically, promptly, in writing, with something real attached. But a good caregiver is worth more than any family can pay, and no agency can close that gap alone. We need your help to keep them.
How your business helps
- You provide the thank-you. A dinner for two, a cut and color, a dozen from the case, a gift card, or whatever your business does best. When one of our caregivers does something worth noticing, the thank-you she receives carries your name.
- You write the line. Under your name on the card is a line in your own words. “From all of us at Rosa’s, thank you for what you do.” Anything that is about her is welcome, including an invitation to come back.
- You get your name and a line in your own words on the card every caregiver receives with your gift. Your logo on this page and on our home page. A note to the family when their caregiver is recognized, naming the business that made it happen. A post from us each time a thank-you goes out, tagging you. And a caregiver who walks into your business as a guest and tells people who sent her.
- Why now. We open this fall. The first businesses in are the ones our first caregivers and first families will know. There won’t be many, on purpose.
Questions businesses ask
Is this a donation?
No. Telford Loving Care is a private company, and this is a local sponsorship. Most businesses treat it the way they treat any sponsorship, as a marketing expense. Your accountant can tell you how it applies to you.
How does the caregiver redeem it?
The simplest way is your own gift card or certificate in a set amount, which we give to the caregiver with her card. If her visit runs over, she covers the difference like anyone would. If it runs under, the balance stays on the card.
How many caregivers will come in?
As many as you decide. Ten thank-yous a year is a good place to start; three is fine too.
Can we choose who gets it?
We choose the moment and the caregiver; you provide the thank-you. Every card tells you what she did.
Put your name on the thank-you.
